Our family helping your family since 1908 - Generations of Excellence

Antoinette Marchand

Toni is lovingly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many dear friends, in particular she will be deeply missed by her niece, Maureen Freeman from Australia who was like a sister to her.

Toni was born at the family farm in Forget, Saskatchewan, on June 17, 1916, the seventh of eleven children. She attended normal school in Regina in 1934 and taught in Forget for five years at the height of the depression. After leaving Forget, she taught in Coderre, SK for two years. After a short interlude in the war effort at Sorel, Quebec, she chose a career in social work, working in Toronto from 1944 - 1951 and in Edmonton from 1951 - 1975. She and her sister, Gerry lived together in Edmonton sharing many common interests; a glass of wine, golf, travel, musical theatre and volunteering for the church. It was a great loss to her when Gerry passed away in 2016. After Gerry’s passing, she prayed that God would come and get her, but said it might take awhile since Gerry, having a great sense of humour, would want to tell God all her jokes and stories before Toni got there. She often wondered if her life would have been different if her twin sister had not died at birth. At the end of her life she kept saying she was living so long because she was living for both of them. She was always very gracious and grateful for any kindness she received. She often asked us what she had done to deserve such good friends. In a sense, she was timeless, conversing and having fun with any age group. We’ve lost a special lady, we will miss you Toni, and we thank God for sharing you with all of us for so many years.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Sidhu and the staff at the Rosedale Assisted Living for the gentle and loving care they provided during Toni’s time of illness.

In Loving Memory of
Antoinette Marchand
