Gerry Mazer

It is with great sadness that the family of Gerry Mazer announces his passing after a long battle with cancer on December 11, 2018.

Gerry will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years, Marg (nee Carstensen); and children, Steven (Anne), ZoŽ (Rod), Amanda (Dion), Jeff (Terry), and Jeannette (Bill). Gerry will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Ryley, Andrew, Cameron, Lauren, Mariah, Aiden, Elizabeth, Bradley, Jamie, Max, Will, and Luka. Gerry is survived by his sisters and their families, Pat, Darlene, and Donna; and his brother-in-law, Peter (Barb) Carstensen and family.

A native of Fort McMurray, Alberta, Gerry grew up in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan. He attended the University of Alberta, graduating with his Bachelor of Education; and the University of Victoria, where he graduated with Masters of Education. He had a long and distinguished career in education, starting as a teacher, then a principal, and then as a school administrator for the City of Grande Prairie and the County of Grande Prairie.

In 2001, Gerry tried his hand at politics, becoming an Alderman and Deputy Mayor for the City of Grande Prairie.

Gerry led an amazing life, and touched the hearts of everyone who knew him. Music and art were very important parts of his life; he loved to play the guitar and paint. He was a dedicated volunteer at many organizations, including serving as the president of Rotary, driving for the Cross Cancer Institute, and was very active with several music jammers groups in the St. Albert area.

Last but not least, Gerry was a diehard fan of the Edmonton Oilers and Edmonton Eskimos; and wholeheartedly stuck by them his entire life.

In Loving Memory of
Gerry Mazer
