Our family helping your family since 1908 - Generations of Excellence

Katherine Burrell

Katherine “Kay” Jean Burrell passed away at 103 years of age on December 6, 2018, as loved ones held her hand. An extraordinary woman that lived over a century. Kay grew up on a modest farm in Radway, Alberta, to immigrant parents from the Ukraine; she was the eldest of four children. In the 1930’s with only a few dollars, Kay moved to Edmonton to start a life for herself; she was a self-sufficient lady that was well ahead of the times for her generation. She often reminisced fondly of her memories and position as head waitress at the Fairmont Hotel MacDonald in the 1940’s, where she met her late husband, Alfred Augustus Burrell. She and her husband travelled to multiple countries together and raised two children in a home constructed by her husband. After Alfred’s passing Kay continued to live in their home independently, up until her final days. She enjoyed cooking and gardening with her adoring Toy Poodle always at her side. Kay’s strong Christian faith was a focal point in her life and one that she was active in daily. Lovingly remembered by her son, Bill (Eileen) Burrell; daughter Joan (Garnett) Lachoski; grandchildren, Dale, Lynn and Leanne Lachoski; along with her many spiritual brothers and sisters. The family would like to express their gratitude to the wonderful doctors and nurses on Unit 5F3 at the University of Alberta Hospital; their kindness and care will not be forgotten. To honor Kay’s wishes there will be no funeral service. Following her cremation there will be a small private service.

In Loving Memory of
Katherine Burrell
