Deanne George

With great sadness and with much love, we announce the passing of an amazing person, Deanne George, at the age of 73 after a fourteen year battle with cancer.

She is survived by loving family: sister Lorraine & brother Gary Stepchuk, son Jason (Ada) George, daughter Kelly (Sean) Casault, grandchildren Haley & Alexander Casault, and many wonderful cousins and friends from coast to coast.

Deanne was devoted to her family, guiding and celebrating the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She graduated at the age of 20 from the University of Alberta and was an excellent teacher, retiring in 2000. She was an avid traveler throughout her working career and retired life. She especially loved attending theatre and the symphony, and had a great love for bridge, golf, and tennis. We will forever miss her fierce independence, intellectual curiosity, wise counsel, sharp wit, musical talent, and great cooking. She will be remembered for popularizing double-sided hugs. “Why get one hug when you can get two?”

It took a lot of cancer to ultimately stop this woman. Her long and strong fight has increased the body of knowledge used to battle the disease. Special thanks to Dr. John Mackey, Dr. Tony Fields, and the staff from the Cross Cancer Institute.

She was predeceased by her father Walter in 1994 and by her mother Josephine in 2016. As per Deanne’s request, cremation has taken place and will be followed by a private celebration. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation or to Wellspring Edmonton.

In Loving Memory of
Deanne George
