Paul Lefaivre



On August 30, 2018, Paul Lefaivre of Edmonton passed away at the age of 94 years.

Predeceased by his beloved wife Marlyn (Marnie) Horne in 2010, he leaves their three daughters, Maryann and husband Mitch Sabourin of St. Albert, Paula Kathleen of Red Deer, and Michelle and husband Michael Palmer of St. Albert; seven grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister Catherine Barry and sister-in-law Marjorie Lefaivre, both of Calgary. Paul was predeceased by his father, William; mother, Jean; brothers, Francis, and Joseph; sister, Marguerite; sister-in-law, Charmaine; and brother-in-law Donald Maveal.

Born in Edmonton in 1923, raised and educated in Calgary, he was very proud of his ninth generation Canadian heritage on his fatherís side, and Acadian roots on his motherís side. A Canadian Navy Veteran of World War II, his service included landing in Normandy on D-Day. In 2015, The Republic of France awarded him the rank of Knight of the French National Order of the Legion of Honor in recognition of his involvement in the liberation of that country during World War II. A career banker for 42 years, he was the first executive officer of the Royal Bank of Canada to be located in Edmonton. Following retirement in 1982, he remained active in business and community affairs for nearly twenty years.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at St. Joseph Basilica, 10044-113 Street, Edmonton. Cremation as well as a private family interment of the urn at Holy Cross Mausoleum will take place at a later date.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Kipnes Centre for Veterans for their compassion and care.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations would be greatly appreciated by the undernoted, for whom Mr. Lefaivre served as volunteer director for many years: Franciscans of Western Canada, Mount St. Francis Retreat, P.O. Box 430, Cochrane, Alberta, T4C 1A6.
