John Charles "Doug" Douglas Mallet-Paret

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Doug on Sunday, July 29, 2018 in Edmonton, at the age of 96. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Phyllis in 2014, following 64 years of marriage. Doug was also predeceased by his son, Stephen in 2008. Doug is survived by his twin sister, Joan Needham of Kelowna; his sons, John (Jeff) of Rhode Island, Louis (Donna) of Sherwood Park, Roger (Rhonda) of Edmonton, 5 grandchildren Mark (Allison), Megan Beaulieu (Justin), Julie (Jeremy), Carissa and Eric; and 2 great grandchildren, Miles and Mavis. Doug was born to John (Jack) and Helen (Nellie) Mallet-Paret in Kelowna on January 9, 1922. Doug started from humble beginnings on a farm during the depression, which shaped his work ethic and future career success. After serving in the RCAF during WW2, he attended UBC and became an Electrical Engineer, which ultimately allowed him to reach the position of vice president of AGT (now Telus). Despite that success, he always was a wonderful family man. Following university, he lived briefly in Montreal and Vancouver, then spent most of his married life in Edmonton. Doug always returned to Kelowna yearly for family summer vacations, something for which he will always be remembered. Doug and Phyllis moved to Kelowna briefly following retirement, then returned to Edmonton to be near friends and children. Doug will be remembered as a kind and charismatic person, fun to be around, whose life’s purpose was centered around his family. A special thank-you goes out to the caring and compassionate staff of Jubilee Lodge Nursing Home in Edmonton, where Doug spent his last few years. As per Doug’s wishes, no public service is planned. At a future date, immediate family members will lay his cremated remains to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery in Edmonton, where his wife Phyllis and son Stephen rest. Condolence messages can be left at the funeral home www.connelly-mckinley.com. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any charitable organization such as Hope Mission Edmonton or the Salvation Army, as Doug was a strong supporter for those who supported the hungry and homeless.
