Obituary

STEPNEY, Diane Gay

Dec. 23, 1943 - July 31, 2018

Diane died peacefully surrounded by family on July 31, 2018.

She is cherished by her daughters, Barb, Tracy, and Shelley, and their spouses Stephen, Ken, and Christie. Diane was devoted to her grandsons, Michael and Kevin, who will miss her greatly.

Diane is predeceased by her parents, Eleanor and Harold Stepney, and her siblings, Judy and Philip, and the thought of returning to their sides comforted her through her final days.

Diane grew up in the Prince Charles community of Edmonton, spending her time with a large extended family, especially her cousin, Linda Cherepanik (née Landals). After high school at St. Joseph's, Diane attended college in Camrose, graduating as a Registered Nursing Assistant. She then worked at the Charles Camsell and Edmonton General hospitals, nursing on different wards, with her most treasured time being in pediatrics, cuddling babies when the doctors were not looking.

After having her children, Diane returned to her healthcare career at the Alberta Alcohol & Drug Abuse Commission (AADAC) downtown treatment centre, where she worked until her retirement in 2008, and then for another seven years. Many of her colleagues became close friends, with whom she enjoyed dining and the theatre.

Of her many hobbies, Diane most loved her years with the Girl Guides of Canada and volunteering on Tuesdays at the Provincial Archives. When not volunteering, she could be found reading, antiquing, and adding to her vast collection of British monarchy memorabilia. Throughout her life, Diane had the good fortune to travel extensively, making memories that will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

An open-house visitation will be held to celebrate Diane's life on Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018, 6:30—8:30pm, at Connelly-McKinley's downtown location, 10011-114 Street. A full funeral mass followed by reception with eulogy will be held Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018, 11:00 am, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 13 Brower Drive, Sherwood Park. (Map:goo.gl/nQr1JA.) Internment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 14611 Mark Messier Trail.
