Lucy is pre-deceased by her beloved husband Antony De Almeida; brothers, Michael, Joseph, George, Antony; sisters, Monica, Sr. Mary, Sr. Philomena, Sr. Alexandria, and three infant siblings.

Lucy was born to Maria and Augustine Pereira in Mathilakam, Kerala, India. She graduated from Our Lady's Convent High School for Girls in Palluruthy. She earned her B.A. from St. Theresa’s College in Ernakulam and her B.Ed. from Stella Maris College in Chennai. She was a member of the college basketball team where she earned the nickname “Tiger” for her feisty defence. Lucy taught at Secunderbad Convent and was a head mistress at St. Mary’s School in Pallippuram, Kerala.

Lucy met her husband Tony on a ferry on the way to church. Love at first sight, they were married on December 26, 1956. After the births of their first four children, Lucy and Tony moved to Ambo, Ethiopia where they both taught high school for two years and had their fifth child. In 1966 Lucy and Tony moved to Alberta Canada where they both taught in Lac La Biche and had their sixth child. They also taught in Westlock and Eaglesham, and finally their beloved Peace River, Alberta where they enjoyed 20 years, raising their six children while Lucy taught elementary grades and Tony was Vice-Principal of Glenmary Roman Catholic School. Lucy and Tony were deeply involved in the local Roman Catholic Cursillo program.

Lucy and Tony moved to Edmonton in 1988 after their retirement, and Lucy became involved with the new Good Shepherd Catholic Church as Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and worked with Tony in creating and organizing the annual Good Shepherd Catholic Church annual International Day Dinner and Celebration.

Lucy was a fabulous home chef. She always welcomed and gathered family and friends around the dining table to share in delicious and lovingly prepared meals. Lucy and Tony especially enjoyed travelling the world. Their travels included numerous countries in nearly every continent. They loved and cherished retirement winters at their beloved Fransbel House, Kerala, India home.

Our hearts are shattered with our profound loss, but we will honour our mother’s legacy by being the children and grandchildren she wanted us to be - formed deeply by her spiritual conviction and character.

The family is forever grateful to the ER staff of Misericordia Hospital, the Edmonton Bravo 17 and 103 Paramedics, the Community Care Paramedics led by Lisa Trahan, NP, the staffs of Touchmark at Wedgewood, AHS Southwest Home Care, Bayshore Home Health, Dr. Andrew Wong and Lucy’s former doctor, Dr. Zenia Kuc.

Reverend Marc Cramer will celebrate a Funeral Mass at 11am at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 18407-60 Avenue, Edmonton on Friday, June 29, 2018. Visitation will begin at 10am. Interment will take place at 2 pm at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, 4814 Meridian Street, Edmonton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Society of St Vincent de Paul, Good Shepherd Church. Lucy had a commitment to helping the poor and disadvantaged. The efforts of our local SSVP were close to her heart.

In Loving Memory of
