Our family helping your family since 1908 - Generations of Excellence

Vivian Dykstra

Mom slipped away peacefully with family at her side Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 90 years of age.

Predeceased by her son, Tom; daughter, Beverly; brothers, Wilfred and Allan and sister, Evelyn.

Mom is remembered by the love of her life, Stan; children, Laura (Wayne), Linda (Rick), Robert and Dwayne; 4 grandchildren, Amber (Blaine), Pamela (Chris), David and Patrick (Sarah); 6 great grandchildren, Emmalee, Ozzy, Anden, Jack, Sawyer and Charlie; sister, Doreen (Harvey) and sister-in-law, Jean.

I once asked Dad what attracted him to Mom when they first met and he said that she was “so sweet”. Now we are hearing these same words “so sweet” being used by many sharing memories of Mom.

Mom kept a beautiful home and garden, and was an artist extraordinaire. Be it entertaining, painting, sewing, ceramics, card making, flower arranging whatever Mom set her hand to was beautifully done.

Mom was a living example of love and a dynamo in a beautiful petite body. Never one to say I can’t do it, she just put her head down and got it done. Mom and Dad worked tirelessly with the Independent Order of Foresters to help establish the Foundations that lead to the creation of Peaceful Valley Provincial Recreation Area, and the Hope Foundation. Together with their I.O.F. friends they helped raise considerable funds for the Zebra Child Protection Centre, Crime Stoppers, and Constable Ezio Faraone Memorial Park to name but a few. Mom and Dad also travelled extensively with “The Godfrey Gang” on geological adventures around the world.

Respecting Mom’s wishes, there will be no public funeral service. Following cremation, a private family service and inurnment will take place at a later date.

The family would like to thank the exceptional staff at the Allen Gray Continuing Care Centre and Dr. A. Chiu for their kind and compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joy’s memory to Peaceful Valley Provincial Recreation Area, Parks and Wildlife Ventures Program, 901, 10405 Jasper Ave. N.W. Edmonton, AB. T5J 4R7 … Or Allen Gray Continuing Care Centre, 5005 28 Ave. N.W., Edmonton AB. T6L 7G1
