Our family helping your family since 1908 - Generations of Excellence

Donald Machum

We celebrate the passionate life of Donald Cochrane Machum. Donald was born November 18th, 1960 in Sault St. Marie. He was predeceased by his loving parents Jean Cochrane Machum and Donald Alexander Machum (Sandy). He is survived by his loving soulmate and wife Karalee (Stanners) Machum and his bright son Donald Maxwell Machum, whom everyone knows as Max. He is remembered and loved by family, and friends who became like family, including his sisters: Mary Machum (husband David), Alison Machum; and his nephew Scott. His in-laws, the Stanners family, were his loving family as well. He referred to them as his own brothers and sisters. He deeply loved and supported his many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He also left behind two loving dogs: Duke and Daisy, who were so lucky to be so loved by Don. He graduated from U of A, with a degree in Political Science. He enjoyed a successful career in commercial real estate and development until his retirement in 2009. He was an honoured Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary, where he was President of the South Edmonton Chapter in 2005. In 2010, he followed his adventurous spirit with his family to live part time in Costa Rica where he is loved by his community and known for his generous spirit and ability to create peace, laughter, and true community connections. Those who knew Donald knew him as a brilliant, kind gentleman with a passion of music, literacy, world history, travel, and animals. He was able to embrace his true love of golf in Costa Rica. For him, his "Heaven on Earth" was Reserva Conchal Golf Course; a love for which he shared with his son. He tried to bring a positive outlook to every situation, looking at every problem as an opportunity to find a solution. He loved helping others to become the best version of themselves. His clever and unique sense of humour and hosting ability, earned him the unofficial title “The Patriarch of Good Times”, and there were many wonderful times in his home in Alberta and Costa Rica. We as a family would like to extend Don’s gratitude to the many doctors and Healers in Alberta and Costa Rica, who embraced Don’s courageous spirit during his inspiring journey with leukaemia. He embraced and blended both Western and Integrative medicine without prejudice. Special thanks to Dr. Stephen Aung, Dr. Andrea Messenger, Dr. Saini, Dr. Tiffany and the amazing loving team at 5f4, as well as all our friends and family who have shared their prayers meditations and unconditional love. There has been no battle, no fight, and no loss, for we have all breathed easier for knowing Don. We will be having a private family celebration. Don proudly supported La Paz Community School in Costa Rica and its scholarship program. In lieu of flowers, we invite you to make a contribution to La Paz. http://www.lapazschool.org/donate_now/

In Loving Memory of
