Obituary

Phyllis was born in Castor, AB. She lived in Calgary, Ottawa, and settled in Edmonton for the balance of her married life. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She had a kind and compassionate soul. Along with her involvement in her family life, she was a dedicated member of the Lions Club, and the Catholic Womens League, and an avid volunteer at her church. She was a talented craftswoman and loved to spend her free time on quilting or sewing projects for charity sales or gifts for her friends and family.

Phyllis is survived by her dear husband of 60 years Cecil; children Sheila and Jim; grandchildren Kevin, Ian, Colin, Colleen, Claire, Jack and Dana; and sisters-in-law Anne Murphy, Faye Ball and Donna Kawata. She was predeceased by her sister Eunice Halpen; brothers Tommy, Vincent (Mayo) and Gerald; brothers-in-law Ted Ball and Kaz Kawata; and her parents Clare (née Kelly) and Alfred Murphy.

The family would like to thank the staff of Wedmen Village, Grey Nuns Hospital, and Grandview for their excellent care of Phyllis this past year as her health and affliction with Alzheimers Disease worsened. And a special thanks to Nurse Helena who stayed with the family and prayed beautifully over Phyllis as she passed peacefully into the hands of Christ.

A Visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m. followed by a Prayer Service at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home (10011 114 Street, Edmonton). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church (210 Haddow Close NW, Edmonton) with interment to follow at Rosehill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please consider sending donations to Inclusion Alberta, an organization that has been immeasurably supportive to Phyllis’s family.

In Loving Memory of
Phyllis MacKenzie
