Obituary

Mom’s life began at the height of the First World War in Medicine Hat. Her father was seriously injured while working on the railroad. He passed away when she was only one year old, leaving grandmother to raise Mom and her three older siblings on her own. Upon successfully completing her high school in the “Dirty Thirties”, and just before the onset of the Second World War, she happily married her school sweet heart, Ted. In 1944, she had twin boys. As a fulltime homemaker she doted on us. Our family moved from Medicine Hat, to Drumheller and then to Stettler. After retiring Mom and Dad moved to Vernon, B.C. and enjoyed several active years before Dad passed away. Notwithstanding the challenges she faced, Mom was always positive and caring, enjoying playing bridge and crib, fishing, golfing, curling, and skating on her tube skates, well into her 80’s. Ultimately, she returned to Alberta to be closer to her family. Her family was always her pride and joy.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ted (Fred Edward) and her siblings, Emma (McWilliams), Annette (Odland) and Harry (Jackson).

She is survived by two sons, Harry K. Gaffney (Shirley Cable), their children Cindy and Martin (Angie), great grandsons Kieran and Damien; and Richard F. Gaffney (Penny Canadine), their sons Sean (Audra), Stephen (Tannis), and Scott (Kristine), great grandchildren Madison, Carter, Grace, Sophia, Julia and Zach.

We would like to sincerely thank Dr. Bell, Sr. Blandine, and all the caring and compassionate staff of the Youville Home, St Albert.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no funeral.

A celebration of her life will occur at a later date.

Interment will be in Vernon, B.C. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Youville Home Auxiliary Hospital Foundation, 3C60 11111 Jasper Avenue, Edmonton, AB. T5K 0L4, or a charity of your choice in Mom’s name.

In Loving Memory of
Marguerite Gaffney
