Norman Michael Haddad



Norman Michael Haddad passed away peacefully in his own bed on July 4, 2016 at the age of 98. Norm was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and grew up in Meyronne, Saskatchewan. He moved to Edmonton, Alberta with his family in 1936 so he could attend the University of Alberta, receiving his Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1939. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. Norm spent his entire working career with KPMG Chartered Accountants or predecessor firms and retired as a partner in 1982. He also spent a great amount of time on his many investments, both real estate and financial. Family was always first in his life.

He was predeceased by his father, Abdelnour Haddad and his mother, Sophia (Ead) Haddad and all of his siblings: William Haddad, Julia Robinson, Theodore Haddad, Ruth Small, Howard Haddad, Theodora Baron and Leonard Haddad as well as one niece and one grandniece. He leaves behind 10 nieces and nephews, 15 grand nieces and nephews, 9 great-grand nieces and nephews and many friends and former students.

Visitation will be at 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home, 10011 - 114 Street, Edmonton. A Funeral Service will be held at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, 11111 - 57 Avenue, Edmonton on Monday, July 11, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. followed by burial at the Edmonton Cemetery, 11820 - 107 Avenue. There will be a reception at the Royal Mayfair Golf Club, 9450 Groat Road, Edmonton at 2:00 p.m.

Many thanks are extended to the wonderful staff of the Ashbourne seniors residence where Norm lived for the last six years of his life, the staff of Shephard’s Care at Home who cared for Norm in the last days of his life and Dr. Cave and his staff who looked after Norm’s health for many years.

In light of Norm’s strong belief in the importance of education, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The A.F. and Sophia Haddad Memorial Award to Further Education in Business and Finance Fund at the University of Alberta.
