Our family helping your family since 1908 - Generations of Excellence

Joseph Finley

Joseph “Joe” Finley passed away quietly only weeks after his 101st birthday.

Mourning his loss are his three daughters, Lois, Tricia (John Hyde) and Jane, and four grandchildren, Winston, Spencer and Claire Tuttle and Finley Hyde, all of whom will miss him deeply. Joe was predeceased in 2014 by his wife of 62 years, Delphine (nee Jessie Delphine McDonald). Joe was also predeceased by his parents, Charles and Caroline, brothers, Alec, Bernie, Frank, John, Charlie and one sister, Margaret. The Finley family first arrived in Edmonton in 1905 from Hull, England.

During the Great Depression Joe delivered the Edmonton Journal to help support the family, often postponing collecting payment from struggling families on his route. He enlisted in the RCAF in 1940 and was posted to North Africa where he served as a radar technician. After the war, Joe enrolled at the University of Alberta and graduated with a BCom in 1947. He married Del in 1948 and went on to a fulfilling career in the oil and gas industry, eventually becoming Comptroller and Vice President of Majestic Contractors Ltd. He and Del spent many wonderful evenings dancing at the Edmonton Petroleum Club. Joe was a music lover and an accomplished pianist. His version of "The Entertainer" will live on.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Klein and staff, staff of the Churchill Retirement Community and the Kipnes Centre for Veterans for the special care they gave Joe in his final years.

A funeral to celebrate Joe’s life will be held on Friday, April 15, 2016 at 2pm at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home, 10011 114 Street, Edmonton, Alberta.

In Loving Memory of
