Benedict Kolbuc

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ben Kolbuc on December 24, 2015. Ben is survived by his loving wife Judy (Gliddon) his daughter Deeann Kolbuc, brother David (Sandra), sisters-in-law Cheryl and Marilyn and much loved neices and nephews. Ben was predeceased by his Father (Joseph), Mother (Sophie), brothers Ted and Philip.

Ben was happy and thankful to have lived 75 wonderful years filled with a lot of love and admiration by all he knew. He was inspired by his brother Ted who believed that anything you dreamed you could accomplish. He certainly accomplished all his dreams and goals. He was an accomplished musician playing the Accordian and Trumpet and eventually starting his own band. He always wanted to be a pilot and after 6 hours of instruction his flight instructor sent him up on his first solo flight and to his thrill and excitement he survived then went on to buying his own planes and soaring in the skies. He worked hard all his life and eventually owned a Western Star Truck Dealership, sold and retired for a year or so, then got the opportunity to buy into Norden Autohaus and became a partner with Grant Ericksen. Norden Autohaus became one of the finest VW and Porsche dealerships in Canada under his leadership, winning many awards and sponsing many Charities in Edmonton. Ben himself won the Diamond Pin Award from Volkswagen in 2007, a very prestigious honour awarded to only one Dealer/Manager in each country, Ben sold the dealership and retired in 2007.

He always wanted race horses so two were purchased and named Ben's Magic and Ladee Judee, they have been retired and given to a loving family in Thorsby who are kind of enough to keep us updated on how they are doing.

He loved the song "I Did It My Way" by Frank Sinatra and he certainly lived his life his way, he loved his family and friends, had the greatest respect for all his business associates and staff that worked for him.

Judy and Deeann would especially like to than Dr. Sam Marcushamer and his ICU staff at the Royal Alexander Hospital for their kind and wonderful care of Ben. Sam offered his support at any time of the day or night, this was a particularly hard time for him as he is also our neighbour and friend. Once Ben was in his care we felt relief knowing he had the best care possible. Thanks also to the Renal Satellite Dialysis Unit at the Royal Alexander for their wonderful care while Ben was there for Dialysis and to Dr. Pisani for his compassion during Ben last few days.

Ben's wishes were to be cremated and have a Memorial/Celebration of Life at a later date. A notification will be put in the newspaper when a date, time and place have been decided.

Donations can be made to the Alberta Kidney Foundation, SPCA, SCARS or a Charity of one's choice.

In Loving Memory of
Benedict Kolbuc
