Jacob Gartner



Jacob “Jake” Gartner, 92, of Edmonton, Alberta passed away at home surrounded by family on November 18, 2015.

Jake was the son of George and Katherine (Kloster) Gartner and loving husband of Alice (Sauvé) Gartner.

He is survived by his wife Alice and six children: Cheryl (Mike), Karen (Rod), Darlene (Merv), Maureen (Steve), Jaime (Romeo) and Wendy (Dave); 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and sister, Angela Tait in Windsor, Ontario.

He was predeceased by 16 brothers and sisters.

Jake grew up on a farm in Macklin, Saskatchewan, and planted roots in Edmonton in 1948. He was a welder with Local 488 and retired in 1983. He was a true gentleman who cared deeply for his wife and family, and for the community in which they lived. >br>
Jake was a charter member of 4570 O’Leary Council of the Knights of Columbus and belonged to the St. Joseph Assembly 4th Degree. Humble, generous and kind-hearted, he lived a life of compassion and dignity that touched all those that knew him. Jake could be found most mornings playing cards with friends over coffee, and later tending to his labour of love, his garden. He will be dearly remembered by his wife of 62 years and a multitude of family and friends.

Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home, 10011 - 114 Street, Edmonton.

Reverend Paul Kavanagh will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, November 26, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 9830 - 148 Street, Edmonton. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Donations in memory of Jacob may be made to a charity of your choice.
