Obituary

Bob has had many different lives packed into one!

Bob was born in Scotland and immigrated to Canada with his family when he was 4 years old. While growing up in New Westminster, BC, Bob excelled at sports, especially lacrosse and football. Bob was the third child of Robert Edwards and Catherine Baxter Knox, with older siblings, Christine and Bill, and younger sister, Margret.

Bob married, had a son and became a successful realtor in the greater Vancouver area. Then life happens – the marriage dissolved and Bob started onto his second life.

Alcohol and drugs were the focal point of Bob’s life at this point. He often referred to this time in his life as the missing years.

Bob finally got himself straight: off alcohol and drugs, living with a wonderful couple in Edmonton (Marg and Les Milligan), when he met the love of his life, Pat, and her children, Paul and Tricia. Bob’s focus then was building a successful life with Pat. Bob started working in the new home industry, became a top producer and won many awards. Bob sold homes and became Director of Sales and Marketing for a couple of large home builders. This was his third life.

Both Bob and Pat loved the Hawaiian Islands, so one of their goals was to spend 2 weeks a year in the Islands. This continued for many years, gradually increasing to 6 months once both Bob and Pat retired. Bob was forced into early retirement due to COPD. Maui was the location of choice as the heat and moist air was beneficial to Bob’s breathing.

The fourth life was when Bob and Pat embarked on a new mission once they both retired – working with Aloha House Recovery Center in Maui, contributing to AA and NA, and helping kids that are in recovery. They brought many kids back from Maui to Edmonton and Panorama to show that life without stimulants can be achieved and enjoyed.

Bob loved the water – from Whiterock, BC to Birch Bay, WA to Maui to the hot tub in the basement of his home. Many a kid learned to swim with Bob as his belly just floated.

Bob learned how to use a computer – this is actually a huge feat, as he was not technologically inclined. He wrote and published a book about his life, “Bottlehopper”, bought and rode 2 motorcycles to the BC coast and back (5 times), became a mentor to many, worked the Program and tried to stay on the straight and narrow – which he did for most of the rest of his life.

During the last couple of months, Bob often has said that he had a hell of run – a full, satisfying life and a wonderful family – that is all anyone could ask for.

Bob was known by many names: Robert, Bob, Booby, Husband, Grandpa, Maui Bob, friend, mentor, confidant and dad.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Pat; daughter, Tricia (Les); son, Paul (Karen); grandsons, Michael and Scott; his son, Warren & family; sister, Margret & family; nieces, Doris (Laurie) and Audrey (Charles); and grandnieces, Stephanie and Rachel.
