Obituary

In loving memory of Jim Moran December 10, 1923 June 24, 2015

Jim was born and educated in Toronto. He enlisted in the RCAF in 1942 and saw action in WWII as a navigator. After the war, he graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in aeronautical engineering. He then rejoined the RCAF as a project officer. He became an assistant professor at Royal Military College, Kingston, where he also coached the senior basketball team to a conference championship. He then served in a number of leadership roles in aircraft testing and acquisition of new major equipment for the RCAF and the Royal Canadian Navy. He also served in the U.S., Germany and lastly at National Defense Head Quarters as Executive Assistant (Policy) to the Chief of Defense, rising to the rank of colonel. Jim retired from the RCAF to become the Executive Director of the Banff School of Advanced Management, retiring in 1987.

Jim was a gentleman in every sense of the word. He touched everyone he met with his good humour, helpful manner and incisive intellect. Jim embraced our family and extended family with a broad smile and a keen interest in our lives and all things family. We were truly blessed by his presence.

Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife Maureen and her children Don (Elaine) Neeland, Brian (Gail) Neeland and Colleen (Jim) Cameron. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Caroline (Geoff), Caley (Karen), Michael, Elise, Laura (Kyle), Brian, Emilie-Anne, Patrick, Claire (Sean), Keltie (Andre) and Megan, as well as 7 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 29, at 2 p.m. at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home: 10011-114 Street, Edmonton.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Catholic Social Services or any other charity of your choice.

In Loving Memory of
James Moran
