Our family helping your family since 1908 - Generations of Excellence

Dorothy McPherson

Dorothy Florence McPherson, 89, on 14 April at home. Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Jo-Anne (Jerry) Bastarache and Kim (Roger) Worth; sons, Ross (Gwenn) McPherson and Rod (Margo) McPherson; daughter-in-law, Valerie Kamitomo; and her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the wife of the late David Wilcox (1950) and of the late Roderick McPherson (1983). She was preceded in death by her sons, Gary (2010) and Scott (1976).

Born in London, Dorothy immigrated to Canada as a war bride in March 1946, settling in Edson, Alta. Formerly a resident in Swift River and Watson Lake in the Yukon, after 1955 she lived in the Edmonton area, latterly at the Waterford and Kiwanis Place retirement homes.

Her family and friends will remember her tenacity, compassion, and abiding zest for life. Over the years, she opened her Edmonton home to many guests. She loved to cook, enjoyed long conversations over coffee, doted on many pets, was known to disguise Christmas shopping lists in Pitman shorthand, and was rarely without a book on the go.

At Dorothy's request, there will be no funeral service, but in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to one's local humane society. Her family should like to thank Kiwanis Place, Alberta Home Care, and the dedicated staff at the University of Alberta Hospital. The family are grateful for the kind messages of sympathy they have received.

In Loving Memory of
Dorothy McPherson
