Obituary

Winona passed away peacefully on March 24, 2015 one month short of age 82 at the Royal Ale xandra Hospital, after gallantly and gracefully dealing with the pain of numerous hip surgeries, heart and kidney problems over a short period of time.

She will be deeply missed by her husband, Jack, of 54 years; sons, Terry (Marylou) and Brian (Melody); granddaughter, Jocelyn; grandson, Tristen; step-granddaughter, Alicia; sisters-in-law, Margaret and Anna; and her many friends and relatives.

Her friendly, cheerful and complimentary nature will be remembered by anyone who knew her. She was born in Edmonton to her Chinese father Wong Kim and her Danish mother Edith Ingeborg Jorgensen Ladefoged who both predeceased her. Winona graduated from Victoria Composite High School and went on to work in the public library, Walker-rite, Woodward’s and Hudson’s Bay department stores. She possessed great artistic talent, and she worked as a fashion illustrator at the department stores, drawing ladies clothes for advertising, doing show cards and setting up window displays which she enjoyed tremendously. She retired after giving birth to her first child, then settled as a stay at home Mom which she thought was more important. She was also a tremendous seamstress and excelled in crocheting. She made her own wedding dress and dresses for her bridesmaids and flower girls and gave away many afghans to her friends and relatives. She loved sports, played basketball with the boys in the 1950’s and was also a proud Edmonton Eskimos fan for over 50 years and a season ticket holder with husband Jack since 1974.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, attendants and pharmacists at the CCU, ICU and Unit 32 for their compassionate care at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

In Loving Memory of
Winona Mah
