Our family helping your family since 1908 - Generations of Excellence

Doris Ruth Morris

It is with deep sadness and love that we announce Doris Ruth Morris passed away peacefully on November 29, only days after celebrating her 90th birthday and a year after the passing of her beloved husband John.

She will be dearly missed by her daughter Fern “Sandi” Cunningham (Ken) and her son Jack (Kathy) and grandchildren Kelly and John Russell (Terri Whitehead), Layne Cunningham (Vicki) and Jenna and Lindsay Morris. Doris was predeceased by her parents, Ruth and Alec Fearn, her brother Doug Fearn and her sister Jean Cormack.

Doris will always be remembered for her wonderful smile, the sparkle in her eyes and her gentle kindness. Doris’ first priority was always her family. She was a devoted wife and partner to John. They were best friends and were inseparable for most of their lives. She was a loving mother and was instrumental in providing a supportive and happy home life. Doris bestowed a strong set of values to her family and in her own quiet way had a profound impact.

Doris was very grateful for all the good fortune and blessings in her life. Born in Winnipeg, she and John moved to Edmonton in 1953 so that he could start a career in the car business with Healy Ford. They embraced being Edmontonians and enjoyed living in the neighborhoods of Holyrood, Grandview and Oliver. Doris cherished long-standing friendships formed through John’s work, her bridge and crafts groups, and through their close association with St. Luke’s Anglican Church. She also continued close friendships with Winnipeg friends who had moved west.

As their network of friends grew smaller as they aged, time spent with family became even more important. Doris loved the tradition of family dinners and celebrations. She was a proud grandmother; keenly interested in her family’s well-being and thoroughly enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow into adults.

Doris was very fortunate to spend the last eight months in Westcliff Place (ExquisiCare). A heartfelt thank you to Dawn Harsch and her dedicated team who treated Doris with love, dignity and respect. We are so very appreciative. We also wish to acknowledge Dr. Elizabeth Rokosh for her kind and compassionate care over the years.

God Bless You Mom

A private memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 6.

Donations in memory of Doris can be made to the Misericordia Hospital Geriatric Assessment Unit, c/o the Caritas Foundation.

In Loving Memory of
