Evelyn Margaret Okamura



It is with deep sorrow we announce that Evelyn Okamura passed away peacefully after a prolonged battle with cancer on November 26, 2014 and is now at a better place with the Lord. Evelyn is survived by Ken, her loving husband of 43 years; sons: Darren of Los Angeles, CA and Trevor (Srilanka) of Edmonton; daughter, Carrie Nilsson (Bryan) of Calgary and grandchildren: Braydin, Mathias, Niklas, Kiernan, Karys and Laelyn. Also left to mourn are twin sister, Marilyn Morrow of St. Albert; sister, Kay Haus (Gary) of Medicine Hat; and many nieces and nephews. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents: Gilbert and Florence Morrow.

Evelyn was a graduate of the St. Michael's School of Nursing in Lethbridge, Alberta. She worked as a labor and delivery nurse at St. Michaels Hospital in Lethbridge, the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, the Regina General Hospital in Regina, Saskatchewan and the Sturgeon Hospital in St. Albert, Alberta. As a registered nurse she was a lifelong learner who worked by the principles of compassion for others, critical inquiry and the promotion of health and well-being. She practiced her profession with honesty, integrity and respect for others.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m., on December 2, 2014 at the St. Albert United Church , 20 Green Grove Drive, St. Albert, Alberta. Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may make donations to the St. Albert United Church – 20 Green Grove Drive, St. Albert, Alberta T8N 5H6 or the Cross Cancer Institute – 11560, University Avenue, Edmonton, AB. T6G 1Z2

The family would like to thank Dr. A. Joy of the Cross Cancer Institute for his care of Evelyn over the last five years and the nursing staffs of both the Sturgeon Hospital and the Mel Miller Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion during Evelyn’s final months.
