Obituary

Kenneth James Mears, 66, of Edmonton, passed away on Wednesday, September 10th, at Grey Nuns Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

The youngest of four children, Ken was born and raised in Peace River where he spent his early years helping out on the family farm. As a young man, Ken got married, started a family, and worked as a cement truck driver. Later, the family moved to Hinton, where Ken owned and operated a convenience store. After selling that business, he started his own trucking transport company. In 1991, Ken moved his family to the Edmonton area where he worked at various trucking companies.

Ken is survived by his children, Jim (Kirby), Patricia (Jason), Michael, and Teresa. He also leaves behind his brother Gerry, his sisters Nancy and Joan, and his grandchildren, Eric, Maddison, Austin, Kenzie, Ally, and Mathew.

Ken is predeceased by his father, Maurice, and his mother, Hildegarde.

Ken had a deep passion for sports, playing both hockey and baseball when younger, and coaching hockey later. He was also a die-hard fan of the Edmonton Oilers, Eskimos, and the Oil Kings, and he was always ready to discuss both the successes and failures of those teams.

Ken's funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home, 9 Muir Drive, St. Albert, with visitation beginning at noon.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Caritas Foundation (Grey Nuns) 3C60 11111 Jasper Avenue NW, Edmonton, AB, T5K 0L4.

In Loving Memory of
Kenneth Mears
