Our family helping your family since 1908 - Generations of Excellence

Edwin Koester

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gerry Koester after his brave struggle with cancer. Gerry was well-respected as a friend, gentleman, and mentor by his staff, business associates, tenants, and many others whose lives he touched in a positive way. With a servant’s heart, he made exemplary use of his time and talents to advance his Catholic faith as an usher, a member of Parish Council at St. Joseph’s Basilica, and a Knight of Columbus.

He was born in Eston, SK, the fourth child of Lawrence and Philomena Koester (née Bertram) of Illinois, USA. After growing up on the family farm, he graduated from high school as valedictorian and went on to complete a two-year vocational course in Agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan. He then joined the RCMP and was honoured to be chosen for the Musical Ride.

After moving to Edmonton, he found success in his business career and soon launched his general insurance agency while continuing to work as a Realtor. These endeavours then gave him the freedom to pursue his love of farming near Gibbons, AB.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Marguerite Koester (née deBeaudrap); his daughter, Kathleen (Norm) Haring and granddaughters, Veronica (Jarret), Tina, and Sara; his daughter, Karen, and his son, Brian and grandsons Xavier and Maxwell (& their mother Renee).

Gerry was predeceased by his parents and by his sisters Dorothy and Lorraine and is survived by his sister Madeline Little of Rosetown, SK and his brothers Ted (Connie) of Eston, SK and Dennis (Marg) of Ft. Saskatchewan, AB. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Basilica, 10044 – 113 Street, Edmonton on July 8 at 2pm.

Parking is available in lot at 113 St. & 100 Avenue.

In Loving Memory of
Edwin Koester
