Obituary

Grateful for her life of service, the Sisters of Providence announce that Sister Celerina Estacio passed away at the age of 58 at Providence Centre Infirmary, Edmonton, on June 3, 2014. Sister Celerina was born in Calungusan, Orion Bataan, Philippines, in 1955 and entered the Sisters of Providence in 1986, going on to serve the people of western Canada as a social worker, appreciated for her empathy and guidance. Sister Celerina returned to the Philippines in 2001 and spent ten years serving there in the formation program for new members and also worked with others to establish a health care centre for the poor. She returned to western Canada in 2011 and spent two years as transition worker at WINGS of Providence.

Sister Celerina’s loss is mourned by the Sisters of Providence; her siblings Linda; Maria Liza; Gloria (Benjamin) de Guzman; Eulogio (Aurelia); Rodolfo (Meding); Rafael (Zenaida); Manuel (Socorro); Generosa (Rolando) Limcumpao; and her nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Joaquin and Maria and her brother Wilfredo.

The Sisters of Providence appreciate the loving care given to Sister Celerina by the nursing staff at Providence Centre Infirmary and by the palliative care nurses, and the many messages of condolence received from friends and former coworkers. In lieu of flowers, donations to the works of the Sisters of Providence are welcome.

Evening Prayer will be held at Providence Centre on Monday, June 9 at 7:00 p.m. and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Providence Centre Chapel, 3005 – 119 Street, Edmonton on Tuesday, June 10 at 9:00 a.m. Rev. James Holland, OMI will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in the Providence Sisters’ Cemetery, Calgary, Alberta.
