Arthur Halfinger



Arthur (Adolf) Halfinger was born in Russia February 22nd, 1929 and passed away in Edmonton, Alberta on February 7th, 2014.

Art died peacefully on February 7th, 2014 surrounded by his family. He was pre-deceased by his father Karl, his mother Alice and his brother Henry. Art is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Ilona Halfinger; sister Ida Bernstein; son Bob Halfinger (Sherry); daughters, Helga Halfinger (Ken), Heidi Rapanos (Steve); grandchildren, Parker Halfinger (Gabrielle), Taylor Halfinger (Jenna), Spencer Halfinger (Shyla), Robin Vallis (Megan and great grandchild Addison), Joshua Rapanos and Alexandra Rapanos.

Art was born in Russia. His family settled in Güstrow East Germany in 1929 where they farmed until WWII. They ultimately immigrated to Canada. Always a hard worker, Art arrived in Saskatchewan and became a journeyman plumber. He married Ilona in 1954, and in 1956 he founded Comfort Plumbing and Heating (Comfort Mechanical) in Regina.

Art and Ilona were part of Regina’s German Community. They traveled extensively during their 62 years of marriage, and spent many winters in California.

There will be no service in Edmonton. The family will be holding private memorial at a later date.

The family would like to thank the many healthcare professionals who helped care for Art during this exceptionally difficult time. Special thanks to Dr. H. Kamitakahara, Dr. Tran, Dr. E. Bedard, Dr. T Schuler, Dr. I. Sandhu, the home care palliative team, EMS, the nurses and ER physicians at Grey Nuns Emergency, and to Chaplin Blaine Allan.
