Obituary

On Tuesday, January 14, 2014, Bernard died peacefully at the Sturgeon Community Hospital in St. Albert, Alberta.

Born in Christmas Island, Cape Breton, N.S. on January 6, 1928. He is survived by his loving wife Denise (Baril) of 40 years and one sister, Theresa “Grace” (Ernst) Udby of Christmas Island, N.S. He was predeceased by his parents Margaret C. (MacNeil) and Angus A. Bryden, 6 sisters, 2 brothers and 4 siblings in infancy. He leaves to mourn many special nephews, nieces and friends, dear sister-in-law Diane (Bud) Paradis, and brothers-in-law Art (Terrie) Baril, and Phil (Vicky) Baril.

He graduated with a B.A. at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, N.S., attended St. Joseph Seminary in Edmonton, and obtained a M.A. at the University of Alberta. He served in the Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton, Federal Government Indian Affairs and as Chaplain with Correctional Service Canada until his retirement in 1999.

Bernie had a warm engaging personality, was a principled man of deep faith who always left a lasting impression with anyone who met him.

A very special thank you to surgeons, Dr. Athena Bennett, Dr.Naureen Wasey and the staff of Unit 28 at the Sturgeon Community Hospital who were all so devoted and caring.
