Irene Hala

With deep sorrow we announce the passing of our mother Irene Hála who died at the age of 79 on December 01, 2013 at the University of Alberta Hospital. She was predeceased by her son Paul in 1968 and by her husband Ladislav in 2010. She is survived by her sons Peter and Ladislav.

On Saturday December 14, 2013, following the Mass of Christian Burial and Internment, there will be a reception at the St. Emeric Catholic Hungarian Parish Hall, 12960 - 112 Street, Edmonton, starting at about 13:15 pm.

Irene Hála was born in 1934 in former Czechoslovakia. In 1957 she received her degree in architecture and building design in Bratislava, Slovakia, and worked as an architect, building designer, and urban planner. After coming to Canada in 1981 she worked until her retirement for the Government of Alberta, Department of Utilities, where she was in charge of drawing and cataloguing rural gaslines and pipelines.

Irene was a dedicated wife of Ladislav Václav Hála and a loving and caring mother of her sons Peter, Ladislav, and Paul. She was a vibrant person full of life, easily approachable, enjoying company of others, ready to have a good conversation with anybody willing to talk. She was also a very religious person who often loved to come to church to pray and to participate in various church services.

Irene enjoyed gardening, flowers, walking, hiking and camping. Ever since her childhood she was fond of arts, especially drawing, painting, and photography. She loved good music — classical, sacred, opera, big bands, folk, gypsy, and Bluegrass. She took pleasure in reading old-time detective stories and watching family oriented movies and classic comedy TV shows.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the friends who prayed for her, especially the Polish Sisters Servants of Mary and the nuns at the Stoney Plain Carmelite Monastery, and to all the medical personnel and professionals who kindly supported her during her illness — the nurses of the Southside Homecare, especially Amber, Dr. Kamran Fathimani, MD, FRCSC, and his UofA Hospital surgical team, as well as the nurses of the 3E4 unit at the UofA Hospital who tenderly cared for Irene during her last days.

May our Lord Jesus Christ be merciful and grant Irene Barbara Elizabeth Hála eternal peace in His kingdom.

In Loving Memory of
Irene Hala
