Neil Hughes

Neil was born on August 21, 1920 in Vegreville, Alberta to John and Sara Hughes. At the age of 12, he moved to Athabina with his family. Neil proudly served as a pilot in the RCAF during WWII. After the war, he returned to Athabina where he farmed and raised a family with his wife, Dorothy. After leaving the farm, Neil worked in Edmonton until he retired 1988. He and Dot enjoyed camping and were avid bird watchers. Neil also enjoyed collecting stamps and postmarks and cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals. He wrote a book about the history of each post office in Alberta. In his later years, Neil was a volunteer driver for Seniors Helping Seniors. His final six years were enriched by his participation in the CHOICE program at the Gerald Zetter Centre.

He was predeceased by his beloved Dot and his youngest son, John. Neil is survived by Donald (Vira), Allan (Mae), Ann (Vince) as well as his grandchildren, Tina, Denise, Ed, Sarah (Bob) and Tristan and his great granddaughter Madison.

At Neilís request, there will be no service.
