Lawrence McCoy

The family is saddened to announce the passing of Lawrence McCoy on July 8, 2013 at the age of 95.

The son of a blacksmith, Lawrence was one of the founders of McCoy Brothers. He married Eva (Brownie) in 1941 and over the next 17 years they had seven children - Elaine (Jim) Gill, Ken (Shari), Karen (Joe) Petrone, Jim (Patti), Marlene (Allan) Smulski, Ron (Lori), and Bob (Carmen). He was predeceased by his wife in 2000, and is survived by one brother Edward “Dinty” McCoy.

Lawrence loved dancing, hunting, playing bridge, skiing, building things, and traveling. The family cottage at Seba Beach became a special place where he could play with and watch his family grow. That family grew to include 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. His passing was a testimony to his strength of character and constitution and allowed each one of us a chance to say our good-byes surrounded by love.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff of station 18 at Sturgeon Hospital for their sensitive care in Lawrence's final days.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 75 Poirier Avenue, St. Albert at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2013 with a reception to follow. There will be a private interment at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Special Olympics Alberta, Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada, Canadian Liver Foundation, or Canadian Diabetes Association.

In Loving Memory of
Lawrence McCoy
