Obituary

Harry was born on his Aunt Lily’s kitchen table to Harry and Annie Hole. He was one of nine children in a lively and fun-loving family. Harry attended school at McCauley, Victoria Composite, and U of A in Engineering. It was there he raided the Nursing Faculty to catch the girl of his dreams, Muriel Sweetnam. They went on to enjoy 64 years of laughter and fulfillment.

Harry and Muriel had 4 wonderful daughters and 4 semi-tolerable son-in-laws: Elaine (Bjarne), Mary (John), Janice (David) and Karen (Doug). Life’s dividends were his 13 grandchildren: Taylor, Lauren and Karin Pedersen; Marc, Sean, Kevin and Jeff Robbins; Robert, Daniel and Sarah Kent; and Ben, Mariel and Alison Cox.

Harry completed officer training and was fortunate that WWII ended before his deployment to the Pacific arena. He felt privileged to be able to serve society when so many of his friends had lost their lives.

He enjoyed a successful career in construction with Lockerbie & Hole and felt he had an obligation to give back to the community that had given him so much. Harry was recognized for his leadership and contributions to the engineering profession, charitable organizations, and innumerable volunteer commitments. Highlights included an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from the U of A, a Fellowship in the Canadian Academy of Engineering, and the Alberta Order of Excellence.

Harry cherished his relationships with his eight siblings: Bill (Jean), Mary (Mac McLean), Jack (Lil), Ralph (Ada), Bob (Molly), Vera (Al Pratt), Ted (Lois), and Jim (Casey). His life was also enriched by a multitude of friends and business associates. His creativity and ingenuity resulted in countless parties and adventures. Harry was an inspirational leader and mentor to many. His sense of humour carried right through to his final sundowner.

Special thanks to the many people who helped him live his life so fully to the very end, including his caregiver Janet Talledo, Dr. Trent Dusang, and the Palliative Homecare team.

In Loving Memory of
Harry Hole
