Our family helping your family since 1908 - Generations of Excellence

Elizabeth Keenan

Betty was born on October 9, 1926 and died on August 14, 2012. At the young age of 16, she left the St. Boswells’ family farm for the big city of Calgary to enter into a secretarial training program. She worked several years in Calgary, but in her mid twenties decided she like Eskies green and gold better than Stampeder red and white and moved to Edmonton. She made her mark as a skilled and honest bookkeeper for many different businesses. The Beta Sigma Phi sorority was a significant part of Betty’s life. Through this organization she made many lifelong friends, volunteered for numerous community organizations, held several leadership roles and received Woman of the Year recognition. Of course, it wasn’t all work. Sorority conferences and curling bonspiels were always a highlight of her story telling. Some of her favourite volunteer activities were the Commonwealth and Universaide games, selling programs at Eskimo and Oiler games, and selling tickets for the Taste of Edmonton. At Rosedale, she was known for her raffle ticket selling skills. Betty loved to travel with friends and family. She was an avid bridge player whose favorite bid was no trump. She was always the life of the family party or wedding and often showed the young ones some fancy new dance steps. A practical joke was never far away from Betty. Betty is survived by sisters, Nina Grudnizki and Doreen Stelter; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Those closest to her are Larry (Mona) Stelter, Betty Ann Grudnizki, Judy (John) Martin, Colleen (Dave) Keenan - Zdediak. Cathy (Pete) Keenan-Gronemeyer and her best friend for life Sue (Alex) Luchak. She joins her mom, dad, brother Jim and nieces, Dianne Feicht, Donna Elliott and Bev Cushing in eternal rest. A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Friday, August 17, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Homes Downtown Chapel, 10011-114 St, Edmonton with Reverend Martin Pasala presiding. Thank you to those true professionals at Rosedale, Glenrose Rehab hospital, Misericordia geriatric rehab unit and Lynnwood who treated Betty with great respect and kindness. In recognition of Betty’s love for animals, donations can be made to the Edmonton Humane Society, 13620-163 St., Edmonton, AB, T5V 0B2.
