Quentin "Quey" Marr

On May 23, 2012, Quentin Charles Marr (Quey) passed away peacefully at the age of 89 in Edmonton, completing a full and accomplished life. This gentle, kind and generous man will be sadly missed as a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.

Quentin is lovingly remembered by his wife, Ann; his children, Gregory (Ann) of Calgary, Adrian (Pamela) of Edmonton, and Anita (Jim) of Edmonton; as well as five grandchildren, Christopher, Laura, Chloe, Danielle and Jade. He was predeceased by his father, Fee Mar; his mother, Quing Shing Mar; brother, Henry; and sister, Julie. Quentin emigrated from Hong Kong in 1948 to make a new life in Canada. Achieving a Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of British Columbia, he continued to Edmonton to establish roots that were to bear much fruit. Along with his wife Ann, he raised three healthy and active children who were the recipients of his clear values, his strong work ethic and his adventurous spirit. Working in his chosen profession of accounting as well as running the family grocery store, Quentin worked extremely hard to provide a great life for his family.

His love of athletics and recreation took many forms. From hunting to fishing to skiing to golf, he enthusiastically embraced the outdoors. As a young man, Quentin was an accomplished baseball player and as a family man, he took up tennis, playing and practicing for hours every week. He and Ann became regular fixtures at the Royal Glenora Club, whether on the courts, in the fitness area or in the cafeteria, and had countless happy times there.

Quentin and Ann also enjoyed many travels in their 57 years together, often accompanied by Quentin’s college classmates from Hong Kong, a large number of whom were lifelong friends.

Most of all, Quentin treasured his time with his family. In particular, he had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren, taking great interest and pride in their accomplishments.

He requested that there be no formal memorial service, opting instead for a private service for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

In Loving Memory of
