Obituary

Ian Mathieson of Sherwood Park passed away peacefully at the age of 93 years.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 72 years, Agnes; children, Linda, Ann (Doug), Joy (Allen), Elaine (Larry), Ken (Bernie) and Scott; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ian was born and raised in Kirkconnell, Scotland, migrating to Canada with his wife in 1951. In addition to a long career with the YMCA and the City of Edmonton, Ian was also very active in his community and church as both Scoutmaster and Elder at First Presbyterian Church. Ian was a member of Lodge Sanquhar Kilwinning No. 194, Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Scotland as well as Chapter Saint Conal No 407, Order of the Eastern Star. Upon his retirement he moved to Vancouver Island where he and his wife Agnes lived for 27 years, returning to Sherwood Park in 2008. Ian was a creative and talented man with a lust for building and crafting. If he was not in the garage or basement working on his train set you could always find him out in the garden tending to the numerous flowers he loved.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Connelly-McKinley Sherwood Park Mill Woods Funeral Home, 4820 Meridian Street, Edmonton. (Access Meridian Street off Anthony Henday 216 S south of Wye road).
